How to Make Best Homemade Buttercream Frosting

Recipe Ingredients:
- 2 c. (230 g.) confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 c. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3 tbsp. (or more) heavy cream, room temperature
Instructions:
First, pass the icing sugar through a fine sieve into a large bowl and set aside.
Then, in another large bowl, use a stand mixer on medium-high speed (or a stand mixer with a paddle attachment) to beat the butter until it is light and fluffy, taking approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
Then gradually add the sifted icing sugar in several batches, beating on low speed after each addition.
So be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
Finally, add the cream, vanilla and salt to the mixture, now beat the ingredients, adding more cream if necessary, until the icing is fluffy and smooth, which usually takes 1 to 2 minutes.
Note: This recipe makes enough frosting for a 13″ by 9″ cake or a 2-layer (8″) cake. If you choose to pipe the frosting, it will cover 24 cupcakes. So alternatively, if you choose to pipe the frosting With one piping bag, you can frost 15 to 18 cupcakes, depending on the size of the swirl.
