How to Make Crispy Fried Dough

This crispy fried dough is easy to make and absolutely delicious — it’s become a household favorite. Serve it with freshly brewed coffee and impress everyone. You don’t need cooking classes or costly meal delivery services to prepare something delicious at home. With a bit of planning and our detailed meal prep guide, you can create amazing dishes with confidence and ease.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk (4 fl oz / 120ml)
  • 1/2 cup water (4 fl oz / 120ml)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (about 1.4 oz / 40g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (about 0.4 oz / 12g)
  • All-purpose flour (enough to form a dough)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

First, in a large bowl, mix the milk, water, egg, sugar, and salt until everything is well combined and fully dissolved. Then, add the baking powder. Next, gradually add the flour, mixing by hand until the dough becomes soft and no longer sticks to your fingers. The dough should be smooth and easy to roll out.

After that, lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough out until it’s about 0.2 inches (0.5 cm) thick. Then, cut the dough into your preferred shapes, such as strips, rectangles, or diamonds.

Next, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Then, fry the dough pieces in batches, flipping them so both sides get golden brown. Remove them using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Finally, sprinkle with granulated sugar or cinnamon, if desired. To finish, serve warm or at room temperature with coffee or tea.

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
  • Keep an eye on the oil temperature: if it’s too hot, the dough might brown too quickly on the outside without cooking properly on the inside.
  • For a special version, try filling the dough with cheese or guava paste before frying.
  • Always use a glass baking dish to serve or drain the fried pastries.
