How to Make Homemade snack with crispy dough

Crispy dough pastel is a tasty and versatile snack. Making it at home lets you try different fillings and adjust the flavors to your liking. You don’t need cooking classes or costly meal delivery services to prepare something delicious at home. With a bit of planning and our detailed meal prep guide, you can create amazing dishes with confidence and ease.

Recipe Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (17.6 oz / 500g)
  • 2/3 cup water (5 fl oz / 150ml)
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt (0.3 oz / 9g)
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons oil (1.7 fl oz / 50ml)

For the Filling:

  • 7 oz ground beef (200g)
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • Oregano to taste

Tip: You can substitute the ground beef with cheese and tomato, shredded chicken with cream cheese (catupiry), or any filling of your choice.

Instructions:

First, in a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, water, soybean oil, and salt.
Then, stir everything well until you get a uniform, crumbly mixture. This should take about five minutes.
Next, if the dough hasn’t reached the ideal texture, add small amounts of water little by little until it does.
After that, remove the dough from the bowl and place it inside a clean plastic bag.
Shortly after, let the dough rest for at least 10 minutes.
Once that time has passed, remove the dough from the bag — you’ll notice it has become softer.
Finalizing this step, knead the dough with your hands for about five minutes until it becomes lighter in color. This will help make the pastry crispier.
If the dough feels too firm, return it to the plastic bag and let it rest a little longer.
Then, divide the dough into small portions.
Lastly, use a rolling pin to flatten each portion into a thin sheet — just be careful not to make it see-through, as that can weaken the pastry.

Filling and Assembly

First, season the ground beef with salt, pepper, and any spices of your choice.
Then, add in the chopped tomato and oregano, mixing everything well.
Next, open up one of the dough sheets and place some filling on one half.
After that, fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape.
Shortly after, press the edges together with your fingers or a fork to seal them tightly, so the filling doesn’t leak during frying.
Then, heat oil in a pan and fry the pastries until golden brown and crispy.
Finally, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess grease.
Your special street-style pastel is now ready to enjoy! Feel free to serve it with hot sauce or any dip you like.
